Missions Emphasis Week
October 23-25, 2016
October 23-25, Sunday through Wednesday, is this year’s Missions Emphasis Week. This will include a silent auction starting Sunday in the West Wing (all proceeds go towards SNAP fundraising efforts), Navajo tacos in the courtyard after each service, and a missions emphasis in the Lord’s Supper service on Wednesday. Come prepared to learn, pray, and consider new ways to get involved in the spread of the gospel. Contact pastor Ron Giese with any questions. If you are interested in donating an item or service to the silent auction, or would be interested in volunteering in some capacity, please contact Alicia Whitacre.
Clarus ’17: Romans and the Reformation
February 24–26, 2017
Clarus is DSC’s annual spring theology conference. This year’s theme will help us to reflect on one of the Bible’s richest books, the book of Romans. Not surprisingly, the book of Romans is also one of history’s most influential books, as it gave spark to the recovery of the gospel in what became the Protestant Reformation. 500 years ago this year, Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the Wittenberg door. If that’s an obscure historical reference to you, come to Clarus! Speakers Mark Dever and Greg Gilbert will help us hear God’s voice in this book. Conference and childcare registration is available at clarusabq.com. Complimentary registrations will be offered to those who serve in childcare. Apply to volunteer at clarusabq.com.
New Elder Candidates
We are glad to announce that Tim Hickman and Scott Pilgreen have come on the elder board as elder candidates. This means that after a year in candidate status we would bring their names to the congregation for commissioning as elders. We’ll hold their names before you for one month in the bulletin, and then for a month at the close of their candidacy. At any time we welcome you to offer feedback, either to commend them to us, or to express a concern. Email us at info@desertspringschurch.org.
United Way Giving Revision
This month is enrollment month for United Way for employers in Albuquerque. Up to this year, our regional United Way has allowed you to donate to Desert Springs Church (or any charity), and 100% of your donation goes to the church. However, a revision this year is that 10% of your donation must go to the United Way Community Fund. We think most employees are getting clear communication about this, but wanted to make sure you know about this change. For any questions contact pastor Ron Giese.
